Tips&Tricks

Wizard Battle If you play the wizard, increase your magic more than your vitality, because your magic starts higher so your mana will get higher faster, then use Mana Shield before a battle situation. At level 51 (the level required for Stone Curse) your mana is at 185! With Mana Shield, that is 185 hit points! You could probably beat the Butcher with your fist with that.
Learn to fight in groups One of the biggest problems I have when fighting with others and using my Warrior is that I tend to take more damage from firendly fire than I do from the enemy. A couple tips that I have found work. When you are engaging the enemy and the warrior is in the pack, sorcerer's should not cast large kill spells like Fire Wall, Lightning and such. Use targeted spells such as Fireball, or Holy Bolt. By all means, NEVER use Charged Bolt when you have party members in front of you. At least you can control where a Fire Wall lands. Develop a quick warning system with your party when you are going to use a area effect spell. Make it simple like BU for "Back the f*** up." This allows you to type the phrase quickly and let's you party know to move out of the way! You can also program a more elaborate phrase directly into the F9-F12 macro keys by editing the .INI file. Warriors need to learn to use the Shift key. This keeps your charcter in place when fighting instead of moving around every time you click and hit an open space. If you don't use this and step in front of a rogue's arrow or a sorcerer's Fireball, you earned it.
Corner "vanishing" monsters When fighting either Hidden or Mages your best solution is a stone curse, especially with mages, otherwise everytime you approach them they vanish and appear somewhere else. If you do not have the ability to cast a stone curse spell your next goal should be to trap a monster in a corner with you at a 45 degree angle from them. By doing this the monster cannot vanish and appear behind you, they are in fact trapped in that corner. Mages will continue to disappear, but they will reappear right in front of you in the corner until they are dead. This is a great way to kill Archbishop Lazarus if you cannot stone curse him.
Doorway Fighting When meeting a large group of superior enemies it is best to fight them in a one-on-one mode if at all possible. This is best done by standing just outside the doorway. If a doorway is not available try to find a smaller passageway, especially down in the caves or in hell. The goal is not to get attacked by too many monsters at once or they may hit you so often that you cannot get a swing in. This can be especially deadly when they surround you and you can neither hit them or escape.
Ring around the columns (or other items) You may have noticed that the monsters tend to move in spurts. They take a few steps and then stop, take a few more and stop. You can use this to your advantage, especially in a room with lots of objects, like columns or chests. Monsters take some time to orient themselves while you are moving, by running around obstacles you can keep beasties, like the Skeleton King away from you all day long. This allows you to quickly stop, fire a few shots with a ranged weapon or spell and then run around some more items as they approach. Obviously this works best when the room is not full of monsters.
Stay with what you know One of the most common mistakes I see people do when they first start is run away from one attack into a room they have not yet explored only to be sandwiched between two attacks. I've played with a few people that backed off from a fight. Seconds later, I see, "Oh s---!" on the screen. Here they come running back with a mob of monsters on their tail. Now we have to fight from both directions. Be careful to run into areas you have already cleared so as not to put your party in a real bad situation. If you've just entered the level this is not possible, other than up the stairs, but if you are careful you can clear the dungeon in some order to allow you a safe avenue of retreat.
Permanent back doors With at least two people in your party that can cast town portal in some way (spellbook, scrolls, etc.), you can leave a way out of the dungeon for yourselves that is always available. Each of you cast a portal, and then each one uses the others portal. This way the portal never closes. Keep in mind portals only close when the creator goes through them both ways, if they leave the game, or if they cast another portal. So you can use your own portal, just use it one way. By doing this as often as you feel necessary you will have a way out of the dungeon in case you are caught in a jam, as well as not having to recast town portal everytime you need it. This encourages more trips to town to offload stuff so that you can pick up more booty.
Use Permanent Portals in multiplayer Games You need at least two characters who can cast Town Portal (staff, scroll whatever). When in the dungeon each person should cast the spell. From then on, only use the portal that the other person made.. or don't complete a round trip in your own portal. The portals will remain and not disappear use after use! When you go down a level, just recast the two portals again. Extremely useful when you require frequent trips up to offload equipment and reload up on potions.
Extra spells If you join a game and you see a book you like and you want to learn more about the spell, just rejoin the game and the book will be there...buy it then return, buy it then return, and so on. This only works in Dynamic games and one person must always be in the game.
Dying on a level A neat trick to getting your things back after you die, is what I call the Human Magnet. Since the monsters seem to hang around your stuff (sweaty armor smells good to them or something) you need to create a diversion to draw them off. You bring your character back to the site of the accident, create a portal (very important), make sure the monsters there see you, then run like hell into the maze taking the monsters with you. This has worked really well for me, just make sure you are carrying nothing. Because when they catch you, and they do, you will lose nothing but the free health that Peppin gave you. Once you hit Restart in Town (not new game), just pop into the portal, grab your goodies, and kick some butt.
Firewall Trick & Death Let's say you have a boss that you are having trouble killing, for instance, Diablo. Get rid of your stuff you are holding and leave it in town. Then, stand still and wait for the monster to run at you. Now, cast a firewall spell (or more if you want) right next to you. They will stupidly step into the flames just to attack you. Sit there and let them hack you. Just wait until they die in the flames then restart the game in town.
Firewall & Teleport You can teleport in where the monster you are trying to kill then cast firewall at the monster. When it is in the flames just teleport out. The monster won't move from the flames since it can't see you. (It doesn't work 100% of the time tough.)
Those pesky mages in hell Warriors and sorcerers work well together against these guys. Have the sorcerer cast stone curse on all these losers and let the warrior wipe them up. Nice and easy. It doesn't take long to clear out big rooms of them. Also, for warriors only, try and get them to reappear in or near a corner. Then, once you see in the the exact corner, come at them from a 45 degree angle from their spot. That way they keep reappearing in the same spot as long as you don't move to the side.
Spell Overloads When casting spells like chain lightning, people normally only do it one at a time, until they run out of mana. Well, now there's a way to get more out of it. When you find a big load of enemies or even one or two, keep right clicking as fast as you can and it lets you pull off a few more spells then you are spending mana for.
Killing Diablo This is real sweet if you don't like putting up with all his annoying mages and knights. Once you pull all the levers on his level and cleaned up and other enemies around his spot, go back to town and buy a bunch of long range spells like lightning, nova, fireball, etc. Then go back to his lair and stand out of view from even the walls to his spot. Just get in a position where you have a direct shot to the center of his room. (But don't get any closer to his room.) Now prep all you spells with the hot keys and fire them all in his room. He should come running out quite pissed and moderately to extremely damaged. Now kill him. A knight or two might follow him out, but they should not be a problem if you actually made it to Diablo.
